Durban Summer Daze

There’s nothing better than the beachfront in Summer once the holiday season has come and gone. If you get there early enough there are no crowds and you can just enjoy the fresh air and being outdoors. I also love how Durban can be miserable and raining one day and the next it’s bright sunshine and heat you could easily do without.

It’s turned into a scorcher of a day today, so if you’re still on your way down to the beach, don’t forget the sunblock. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. x

Summer Dreaming

I am dying for Summer holidays to arrive. After almost a week of rain we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in Durban. Today was beautiful. I haven’t seen so many people on the beach out of season in years, clearly everyone had the same idea. The trick is to get there early and leave by lunch. The last pic shows just how low the Spring Tide was today, Vetch’s reef was clearly visible for a change.

Dolphin Stories

Just a quick note to say hello and hope you all had a good weekend. Here’s a pic of some dolphins we saw earlier today. Biggest pod I’ve ever seen (obviously they’re not all in the pic).

Have a good week. x

Places to Go, People To See

Wow, this last weekend in Durban was amazing. After an almost solid week of rain, the sun finally came out. These are just a few of the places and people we visited.

From the top: Love Coffee, Windermere Road | Durban Yacht Marina | Lauren Brouwer | Sias Du Plessis | Pippa Dones | Linton Dones and his friend | Kyle Mayes | Dylan taking a break | Natalie and Paige Krynauw | Joshua van Groenining | Vetch’s Beach

A Not So Wintery Durban 2

This long weekend went by way too fast. Today was a bit windy but we headed down to the Point to for a wander. The man in the Coke shirt is Christopher, he’s one of the coca-cola cart hawkers that wander the beach front. He wasn’t too keen on having his photo taken at first but after I thanked him and walked away another hawker called me back and started directing Christopher to take of his beanie and how to stand. I’ll take him his pic sometime next weekend.

We wanted to get out of the wind for a bit so headed off around the development area. If you’ve ever thought that the canal looks like a nice place to swim, don’t do it, for some reason there are Lionfish in it as well as a really rather large mullet. If all the buildings down on the Point looked like the two story semi-detached ones, I think it would be a fantastic place to live. As it is, I’m not sure I could live there.
